There is a 40 mph advisory speed limit on the roads through Cannock Chase. Deer present a significant hazard to motorists. They have no road sense and can just appear in front of you without warning. If you see a deer ahead crossing the road, be careful as there could be others about to follow.
Take even more care during the rutting season
Twice every year, in May/June and then in October/November you need to be aware of the even greater risk of Deer running into the road.
Between 40,000 and 75,000 deer are killed in collisions on the roads every year.
These accidents kill car occupants too, as well as injuring hundreds and causing £11 million of damage to vehicles.
